Install the TrueGUI software

Glossary Item Box

Since you are reading this, you or someone in your company has already downloaded TrueGUI from the website.  The installation wizard is a straight forward installer.  When you are ready to install TrueGUI on a client site, you have other options discussed in the deployment walkthru.

As a developer, your next step is to install .NET developer tools.  There are several options for this.  There are two free options, Express Edition or SharpDevelop.  There is also the comercial product of Microsoft Visual Studio .  If you have no previous experience with .NET then start with the Express Edition. You need one of these to create the screens or forms you will be using in TrueGUI.

When your ready to deploy your project take a look at the Deployment walkthru to see the parts involved with deployment.  You can deploy TrueGUI using the same installer you used to install it here, or you can make a custom installation.

If you receive an error during the installation, there are several likely causes.  First, the .NET framework must be installed on the system.  TrueGUI will attempt to install this if it is not found, but the system must have internet access for this to be accomplished.  Like most application installations it is best practice to install using an administrative account.  The installer will write to the registry for use with un-installation and the TrueGUI.exe file looks at the install location to display versioning information.  You need the client, the TrueGuiInterface.dll, and the license folder to use this product.  It will prompt you for a license, but you should be able to enter this at a later time if the installation hasn't previously expired.  There is also the possibility that you are already using the ports that TrueGUI has put to use.  For this type of problem consult the Appendix> Troubleshooting> IP Port Conficts.
